Melinda,

2025, Oil on Canvas, 106 × 142 cm

£1,800.00

Clare met Melinda in 2002 as they worked together at the Embassy Bar on The Essex Road in London. When Clare moved down to Margate, Melinda was already settled there.

Melinda is painted partly at home and partly in her studio; she lives between these two spaces. She is a creative powerhouse and a generous friend. Painted from above, we look down into her world; this also captures her vulnerability, which makes her improvised live performances so raw and unique.

Melinda collects instruments and objects from car boot sales, as ‘noises and toy’ses’ are a big part of her live performances.

Oli,

2025, Oil on canvas, 106 × 104 cm

£1,500.00

Clare met Oli in sixth form and moved to London together. They lived in squalid house shares, which gave them the space to pursue their creative pursuits. Oli studied Japanese and wrote songs.

Oli is supportive of Clare and many other friends’ careers as artists. His house is decorated with their work. He too is a vulnerable and generous soul. He sat in this chair for ages, chatting to Clare’s 5-year-old daughter, telling jokes to capture the exact expression that she wanted from him.

This painting was used for his new album cover, which he recorded and performed before laying his musical career to rest.
